The night had so many expectations, maybe that's where the failure started.
I was really excited about the opportunity to go see Robert Randolph and The Family Band, unfortunately the delivery of the night fell a few breadcrumbs short of a shake-n-bake. The show was hosted at The Electric Factory, not one of my favorite venues, but it was local which is always nice. I have reviewed the Electric Factory in greater detail, check out my review of The Trey Show to find out more about this venue. The band got started off really nice in the night, but it slowly moved into an uneasy vibe.
I was at the show doing my thing, dancing and getting down to some good old funky jams. The first negative thing to come my way was the staff trying to take some of my goods while I was vending outside during a smoke break. I totally understand it is their venue and their rules, but these guys are crooks. Earlier in the night, I saw the same security guard that confiscated a star laser pen from me at the DSO show playing with the same laser pen outside in the parking lot. This guy took something away from me that I rightfully owned and kept it for himself, shame shame on you. Nothing is sadder than someone abusing power, but then again, that's why the universe will only give him that much. If he asked me for one I would have given it to him, no need to be a crook. Then while outside, two security guards were trying to take my backpack away from me because they saw me selling a pair of space odyssey glasses to another head. Was this a repeat of history, a chance I was not willing to take. Fortunately, a kind fellow grabbed one of the guards off of me and I was able to wiggle away from the other one. They were getting way to physical and aggressive for my comfort level.
I walked away and was able to stash my goods in a secure spot and go back into the show after a change of clothes. I went back into the show after wasting 15 minutes on that situation with the guards. When I got back inside, Robert introduced a female on the stage, I believe he introduced her as his sister. The musical vibe went from good to poor. She did not blend into the band at all, she was like the addition of the triangular wheel on the bus, just not so smooth. I had a meeting setup for after the show that I needed to get his order together, he was going to be selling some of my trippy stuff on Jamcruise, so I decided to split halfway through the show to go get my affairs in order.
Rather than putting to much negative energy out there about this show, I will keep it short ans sweet. I left very happy I only spent $10 on a ticket. If they did not have their guest appearance I would have stayed and danced the night away. With the edition of the extra vocals, I was not feeling it at all. The night left me feeling disappointed in the bands offerings, I am sure I will give them another shot, but I certainly will not pass up another opportunity to go see them.If his sister came out on sage again, I would leave again without hesitation.
