Charged and ready to go, Ratdog built through the night with a momentum that surely is going to carry in the Halloween.
This was the first time I made the trip out to Westbury Venue. It took me about five hours due to heavy traffic, no traffic I should had been there in three. When I got to the venue it was about an hour before the show start time. I was able to walk through shakedown and share some light with my trippy laser pen. The shakedown was happening, music and vendors littered the lot. It was great to run into some friends and share some beers. There was absolutely zero presence by the police, a very welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.
I scored a ticket outside for $25.00 with little or no problem. The lowest I heard tickets going for was $20.00. This was a steal for the night of music that was offered up by the band. I entered into the venue with no search at all. This had to be one of the most laid back venues that I have been too in a long time. The staff was extremely friendly, however, the beers and water were somewhat pricey. A small compromise I was willing to make to be able to have a blast at The Westbury. I danced in the aisles and even walked down to about 5 feet away from Bobby with not a peep of discouragement. I would rank the venue 5 out of 5, one of the best in a long time.
I got into the show at about 7:45 or 8:00 and missed about half of the opening song. I was really feeling a good vibe from the band on The Music Never Stopped and Minglewood. The band was loosening up on those two but turned the tide by song three, Queen Jane. Unfortunately, Queen Jane got really muddy during their Jam. Everyone decided to start jamming at the same time, killed my vibe for a bit. The band recaptured me at Mama said and built into a great finishing first set.
The second set had great promise on what the delivery could be based on how the band build into intermission. The second set opened with two acoustic songs, You Win Again and Victim or The Crime. The boys really got it together for Victim, this was one of my favorites of the entire night. It is hard to say what was the one of the high points of the night, especially considering the band offered up quite a few. The band was on fire from Victim into the Going Down the Road. The later part of the second set had everyone groovin during Going Down The Road, probably some of the best energy of the night. I would give the boys 4 out of 5, they would have gotten 5 if they didn't lose me early in the first set. You defintely are in for a treat tonight if they can continue the trend from lastnight. Thank you to Ralberty for posting the setlist shown below on Ratdog.org.
The shakedown after the show was sweet, again there was no police presence at all. There was 1 tank blowin in the wind, with short lines and average prices. I would prefer a larger balloon, but then again no matter how big they are, they can always be bigger. I hung out on shakedown for about an hour after the show, still ragin with no sign things were going to be shutdown. Thanks to everyone for helping me share a great night, one of the best nights to be had in awhile. Be sure to check out the Phish Contest we have going on at Doctortrip.com.
